Chromebook Refurbishment & Reuse

Have unwanted Chromebooks from your school, academy, college or business? RenewByte helps organisations explore refurbishment and reuse options for suitable second-hand ChromeOS devices.

UK-wide enquiries welcome. Equipment suitability and any transfer arrangements are subject to assessment and agreement.

Current service scope: We review enquiries about suitable second-hand equipment intended for genuine reuse or minor refurbishment. Acceptance is not guaranteed. RenewByte is not currently offering WEEE waste collection, recycling or disposal, or certified data-erasure services. Please arrange appropriate data protection before any equipment transfer.

Chromebook Refurbishment & Reuse for Schools

Chromebooks are widely used in education because they provide access to cloud-based learning tools and can be centrally managed by schools.

Schools may replace Chromebooks because of hardware faults, changing requirements or the end of their automatic update support period.

Some retired Chromebooks may still be suitable for reuse or minor refurbishment. Waste devices are outside our current acceptance scope.

Chromebooks We Can Assess

Acceptance depends on model, condition, ownership, quantity, location and available arrangements.

School Chromebooks

Chromebooks retired during classroom technology upgrades.

Business Chromebooks

ChromeOS laptops previously used by businesses and organisations.

Lenovo Chromebooks

Lenovo Chromebook models used in education and workplaces.

HP Chromebooks

HP Chromebook models, including education-focused devices.

Acer & ASUS Chromebooks

Chromebooks from Acer, ASUS and other manufacturers.

Chromebooks Needing Minor Repairs

Devices needing limited repairs may be considered if suitable for genuine reuse.

Chromebook Data Security & Device Management

School and business Chromebooks may contain locally stored information, account credentials and other sensitive data.

Organisation-managed Chromebooks may be enrolled in Google Admin console management. Schools and businesses should review their management settings and deprovision devices where appropriate before transferring ownership.

A ChromeOS Powerwash resets a Chromebook, but the appropriate data sanitisation procedure must be assessed against the device and organisation's security requirements.

RenewByte is developing its in-house data erasure procedures. Data-handling arrangements should be agreed before any equipment transfer.

Chromebook Updates & Reuse

ChromeOS devices have an automatic update support period that varies by model and platform.

Before preparing a Chromebook for reuse, its remaining update support, hardware condition and suitability for the intended user should be assessed.

Devices that are no longer suitable for secure, supported use may need alternative handling through an appropriate authorised waste service.
